Week 3: January 19 - 25

This week should focus the theme: Jesus: the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

This week, parents should review the following before teaching their children:

  • The essay “I Believe” on pages 244 - 245 of the Parent’s Guide.

  • Watch the video linked at the bottom of this page: Aren’t all religions basically the same?

  • Pages 105 - 116 of the Parent’s Guide.

  • Pages 83 - 91 of the Activity Book.

Here are some tips and reminders before you get started:

  • You are welcome to teach any content from the month that you find engaging and interesting from the books!

  • While the following recommendations are broken up by grade level, we would encourage you to find the routine that fits best for your family.

  • There may be some overlap between the content for children in different age groups that could be shared together.

  • If you have multiple children, you may find some work you can get the younger children started on, leaving you able to engage in deeper conversation with the older children.

With all children, review the monthly verse for memorization. * We encourage you to do this daily!
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life. - John 3:16

With children, grades K - 6:

  • We suggest the following:

    • Read stories from the Gospels together.

      • Pick a Gospel and start from the beginning. Read a few verses or one story each night along with your nighttime prayers.

      • Share a story of a miracle from the Gospel that impacted you from Family of Faith’s In Person Session this month.

      • Read the Gospel for the coming weekend’s Mass in advance. Readings can be found at: bible.usccb.org.

    • Activity 1: Who is Jesus? - Parent’s Guide, 107 - 109 + Activity Book, 85 - 86

    • Activity 2: Miracles of Jesus - Parent’s Guide, 110 - 113 + Activity Book, 87 - 91

  • Review and define the words to know on page 106 of the Parent’s Guide.

With teens, grades 7th - High School:

  • We suggest the following:

    • Watch and discuss the Fr. Mike video linked below: Aren’t all religions basically the same?

      • Have you ever thought of your own answer to the question: Who is Jesus? How would you personally describe him?

      • What signs and wonders (or miracles) of Jesus are most compelling from the Gospels?

      • What would it look like to let Jesus be the Lord of your life in a new or deepened way?

    • Read the Gospels together.

      • Get to know Jesus - the Way, Truth, and Life - bettter through reading the Gospels together. We recommend reading along with the Bible in a Year Podcast: John (Day 99 - 105), Mark (Day 154 - 161), Matthew (Day 258 - 266), or Luke (Day 313 - 321). They are organized and easy to listen along with in the free Ascension app!

      • Share a story of a miracle from the Gospel that impacted you from Family of Faith’s In Person Session this month.

      • Read the Gospel for the coming weekend’s Mass in advance. Readings can be found at: bible.usccb.org.
