Week 3: December 15 - 21
- Annunciation -
Throughout the month, parents should refer back to the essay on pages 249 - 250 of the Parent’s Guide.
To give your family plenty of time to celebrate the mysteries that you are studying this month, the content is brief yet powerful!
Learn about the Holy Habit of Attending Sunday Mass and consider how to practice it in your own life and help your children to do the same.
If your family embraces the tradition of lighting candles around an Advent wreath, any lessons this month could be incorporated into that or done alongside of it.
Use those essays to help you talk with the family about what they learned last week during the in person session.
Why would God become man?
How did God keep His promise to humanity?
How can we prepare for and celebrate Jesus’ birth in a new way this December?
This week, focus on the Annunciation.
We would recommend using Activity 2 on Pages 82 - 85 of the Parent’s Guide.
For 5th graders and older, the video below may be helpful to incorporate in your at home learning this week.
The monthly Scripture memorization is a verse from the Gospel of Luke, featuring Mary’s response to the Angel Gabriel.
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.Talk about Mary’s response to the Angel!
How might she have been feeling when she said these words?
Why might she have been feeling that way?
What can Mary teach us about how we are to say “yes” to God?
Work on the memorization of this verse throughout the week.
For younger children, you can use page 64 in the Activity Guide.
In honor of Angel Gabriel’s big announcement to Mary, you could make time to learn this week over a festive dessert of angel food cake.
Make a plan to go to Confession as a family to prepare your hearts to welcome Jesus this Christmas.
Regularly scheduled times for Confession are found on the Pastorate website.
In addition to those, there are two opportunities for Candlelight Adoration with Confessions available this Advent.
